Azerbaijan is a unique country located on the sea coast, featuring high mountains and plains, deserts, and lush green forests within its territory. The contrast is observed not only in the natural conditions but also in the architecture of its cities: ancient buildings and modern structures coexist harmoniously. The one constant here are the traditions, cultures, and customs.
Today, about 10 million people live in Azerbaijan, mainly engaged in manufacturing, agriculture, trade, and tourism. Azerbaijanis are very open and hospitable people who are happy to meet guests and proudly showcase the best they have to offer. And indeed, there is much to be proud of: the country boasts a rich cultural and natural heritage.
A good place to start getting acquainted with the country is its capital, Baku. The city is the cultural and political heart of Azerbaijan. It hosts one of the oldest and largest trading seaports on the Caspian Sea. Consequently, history mandates the preservation of the Apsheron Towers – a unified defensive system of the city to this day.
This includes the Sabail, Mardakan, Ramana, and Shih fortresses, and the Maiden Tower. The birthplace of the ancient city and its historical center is considered to be the inner city “Icheri Sheher”. Here, surrounded by ancient walls, are the buildings of those times: caravanserais, mosques, baths, and residential houses. Architectural landmarks of Baku include the Seaside Boulevard, Azadlig Square, Heydar Aliyev Center, Museum of Art, Fountain Square, Philharmonic Park, Flag Square, the Ferris wheel, and the Carpet Museum. From primitive art monuments, the Gobustan reserve is noteworthy. Among the natural attractions of the “land of fires” are the Ateshgah Temple and Yanar Dag.
Start your journey in Baku, and get acquainted with other cities of Azerbaijan: Ganja, Guba, Lankaran, Nakhchivan, Sheki, Shamakhi. You will be accompanied by picturesque landscapes, unique architecture, and rich culture, as well as an abundance of mineral springs. This will help you charge with the fiery energy of the country, which will then allow you to warmly recall this amazing region for a long time.
